A STAINED WOOD AND BONE-INLAID MASHRABIYA LOW CHAIR
Possibly Syria or Egypt, mid to late 20th century
Of square shape with a rounded back, resting on four compressed globular feet, with an openwork mashrabiya-style backrest and lateral leg panels, the armrests and legs decorated with typical Middle Eastern marquetry work featuring a variety of stained wood and bone-inlaid patterns including six and eight-pointed star roundels, diamond-shaped cartouches, chevrons, strapwork friezes, and further conventional geometric designs, lined in a cream-coloured pseudo-suede fabric, 72cm x 69cm x 44cm.
