A CHAPTER HEADING FROM AL-KASHSHAAF BY ABU AL-QASIM MAHMOUD BIN OMAR AL-ZAMAKHSHARI (D. 1143)

Arabic manuscript on paper, the chapter heading extracted from an Al-Kashshaaf 'an Haqa'iq at-Tanzil ('The Revealer') manuscript, a 12th-century seminal tafsir written by the Muslim scholar of Iranian descent al-Zamakhshari meant to provide a valid interpretation to the Qura’n, the heading in bold white ink thuluth script on elaborately illuminated interconnecting circles within a rectangular cartouche framed by a band of golden knotwork, the verso with 15ll. of black naskh script within blue and gold rules, significant words in red, 9.7cm x 21.8cm.
