A rare George I provincial sterling silver 'bullet' teapot, Exeter 1725 by Joseph Collier of Plymouth
Of gloluar form upon a collet foot, the curved spout with a shell from and drop junction, opposite a wooden C scroll handle pinned to tubular sockets. The pull off disc lid surmounted by a detachable wooden finial (wooden element and wing nut later). The upper junction of the handle with initials R over I*T in Roman script. The interior with a saw cut pierced filter to the spout of simple scrolls centred with a four-pointed star. Fully marked underneath with maker’s mark twice, the lid unmarked.

Joseph Collier (1692-1764) was a quaker and made a freeman in 1714, registering his first mark at Exeter on 11 Feb 1714 and a sterling standard on the 19 Feb 1721. The list of items between 1714-60 by Collier a bullet teapot of 1726 and 1731 are recorded, Rendle, R. S., (1986), The Goldsmiths and Silversmith of Plymouth, Devon circa 1600 to 1800.
