A BLUE AND TURQUOISE-PAINTED MULTAN POTTERY HUQQA BASE
Multan, Sindh, Punjab, late 19th century
Of typical bell-like shape, resting on three compressed rounded feet, with a widely splayed base, rising to narrow shoulders and a ringed conical neck with a wide circular opening, painted in cobalt blue and turquoise against a white slip-coated ground, the widest bands around the body and neck featuring typical Multan pottery rosette sprays interspersed amidst alternating horizontal decorative friezes with lotus petal and lush palmette crowns, the base marked in black pencil '1196', 24cm high.
