A SMALL QAJAR POLYCHROME-ENAMELLED LIDDED COPPER EWER
Qajar Iran, mid to late 19th century

Of compressed pyriform shape, resting on a splayed oval foot, rising to a tapering neck and reinforced circular rim surmounted by a dome-like detachable lid, with a sinuous spout and C-shaped handle on each side, the exterior painted in pink, blue, black, green, white, yellow and gold enamels, the figural decoration featuring several Qajar youths portrait roundels and two gathering scenes, one with a king and two men smoking water pipes, and the latter with Sufi dervishes and their disciples, the rest of the ewer decorated with flowers and alternating coloured bands, 17.8cm high.
