An early George III sterling silver mustard pot, London 1764 by William Lestourgeon
Of cylindrical form with a shaped strap handle leading to a hinged flat lid with a fold over edge, raised by a shaped simple thumbpiece. The lid engraved with an impaled coat of arms in a C scroll cartouche reserved with scrolls and foliage. Fitted with a clear glass liner. Fully marked underneath, the lid with maker’s mark only, a lion passant to the rim of the body.

The arms are for Benson impaling another
This version of the Benson arms was latterly used by Edward White Benson, Archbishop of Canterbury (1829 -1896) and these may arms may be for ancestor of his.
