TWO BOCCHAS OF TERMEH SHAWL CLOTH
Kirman, Qajar Iran, mid to late 19th century

Comprising two bocchas of square format, one a joined panel twill-tapestry woven in green, blue, and red against a black ground with a complex repeating pattern of circulating buti interlinked with a diagonal grid, the lower middle edge embroidered in white silk with blessings and congratulatory phrases beneath an arch, finely edged with hand-shaped silver passementerie and tape, lined with changeant red and yellow silk satin, 70cm x 71cm; and another, twill-tapestry woven in coloured wools on black ground with repeating rows of left-facing buti interspersed with floral sprigs, finely edged in hand-shaped silver thread passementerie and tape, lined in later brocaded silk, 80cm x 81cm.
