Churchill (Winston Spencer) and Stanley Baldwin
An exceptional black and white oversize photograph of Prime Minister Baldwin and his Chancellor of the Exchequer Churchill in conversation at the cabinet table, laid onto a vintage card mount, signed by Baldwin and Churchill on the lower portion of the mount, also dated "April 1929" in Churchill's hand, in excellent condition, framed and glazed, 47 x 56cm.
***Stanley Baldwin asked Churchill to join the Cabinet and become Chancellor of the Excheque in 1924. Churchill remained at the Treasury until the Conservatives lost office in spring 1929. In the general election of 1935 the Conservatives won a huge majority and Baldwin became Prime Minister again. But no Cabinet post was offered to Churchill, who had parted from Baldwin in 1931 over the question of Dominion Status for India, and now began to differ on the question of British rearmament in the face of Hitler’s Germany.
