NOTE:
A paiza was a tablet carried by officials and envoys used to signify certain privileges and authority. Popularised by the Mongols, they were also carried by officials during the Liao and Jin dynasties. The paiza allowed nobles and officials to demand goods and services from civilian populations. This paiza was used to allow people of this particular rank, Hong lu si xu ban, to enter and leave Peking.
