A BURMESE RED AND BLACK LACQUER 'MYTHICAL CREATURE' BETEL-BOX AND COVER

19th/20th Century

Of shallow cylindrical form, the exterior decorated using the yun technique in yellow, with various mythical prowling felines set against a dense leaf pattern on a black ground, the sides of the cover with two panels bearing inscriptions, the base with betel nut and leaf motifs enclosed within concentric circles, the box opening to reveal a tray decorated to the base with similar motifs, the interiors lacquered red,
