Originally purchased in 1936 for the coronation of Edward VIII, then, following his abdication, re-used for a street party celebrating the coronation of King George VI in May 1937 (the vendor's grandmother sewed on squares of purple fabric to cover E VIII R), square stitching marks around E VII R and slight purple staining, cotton canvas, 271 x 44cm
