*** A magnificent 18th century embroidered binding on turquoise silk wove, with floral and foliate designs, worked with metal silver. The binding is a beautiful example of metal thread embroidery, normally associated with status and wealth. It reflects the taste of the 18th century when embroidery became much more naturalistic in character, especially because of the growth of trade with China and the far East.
