Possibly Ceylon, Sri Lanka, 19th century

Of elongated cusped cartouche-like shape, on a flat base, the sides, lid and base intricately engraved and worked in repoussé with mythical lions (sinha, Sri Lanka's emblem), a bull, scrolling vegetal tendrils, lotus flowers and petals, geometric and fretwork bands, the mythical creature on the base engraved against a ring-punched background, the interior plain, 241gr. weight, 5cm x 15.5cm x 8cm.
