AN ENGRAVED BRASS BOWL WITH ACHAEMENID-REVIVAL FIGURAL DECORATION
Qajar Iran, 19th century
Of shallow rounded shape, resting on an intricately engraved convex base, with a reinforced rim, the exterior divided into several overlapping horizontal decorative bands featuring pseudo-square Kufic calligraphic inscriptions, knotwork, cusped cartouches filled with Achaemenid-revival figural scenes with rulers fighting animals, drinking and banqueting, and nurturing diplomatic relations, the circular medallion on the base with a stylised vegetal arabesque and an intricate web of split palmette trellis, the interior plain, 20cm diam.
