*** According to Brüning, Sennert was the first to introduce chemistry as a separate subject in the medical curriculum. Daniel Sennert (1572-1637) from Breslau, professor in Wittenberg and elector's personal physician, advocated a balance between Paracelsian and Aristotelian-Galenic medicine. He was one of the pioneers in chemistry.

Provenance. Bookplate of Duncan Frazer of Auchnagarn Esq. featuring a shield divided into four parts with six crowns and six flowers on it. Above this is a helmet and above the helmet the motto ‘Pace et Bello Paratus’.
