FOUR SILVER SNUFFBOXES
Armenia and Western Ottoman Provinces, 18th - 19th century

Comprising three small boxes with repoussé exteriors, the largest reminiscent of an oyster shell, the vertical ribs decorated with stylised rosette bouquets, the furrows with beading, 7.5cm x 6.2cm; another snuffbox lobed in shape, the lid decorated with the Christian symbol of the sacrificial lamb, framed by scrolling rosettes and leaves within a lobed band following the outer edge of the box, 5.5cm x 5cm; the last also lobed in shape, the lid with a vegetal spray framed within volutes, surrounded by a beaded band, 5.6cm x 4.4cm; and a silver filigree box, of similar shape to the others, the lid with a central double-headed bird with crest, the rest of the body embellished with scrolling spirals, to the sides a series of repeating compressed and elongated ovals, 6.2cm x 4cm.
