GDR / MINING INTEREST - COAL SCULPTURE

GDR / MINING INTEREST - COAL SCULPTURE, the substantial hand-carved piece, worked from a single piece of coal in high relief, to depict a miner in safety helmet, alongside the crossed-tools emblem relating to the flag of Saxon East Ore Mountains district of Saxony, Germany. Likely produced by a miner at source, and bears the incised overlapping monogram 'HS' to the reverse side.

31cm high x 32cm wide x 15cm deep.
Provenance: Acquired by the current owner in Berlin in the 1980's.
