A George I Britannia standard silver tablespoon, London 1723 by Paul Hanet (reg. 7th March 1716)
Hanoverian pattern, with rat tail heel. The terminal engraved with a contemporaneous crest of a man's head couped and bloody below the motto Loyal Au Mort. Fully marked to stem.
Length – 20 cm / 7.9 inches
Weight – 71 grams / 2.28 ozt
The crest is for Adair of Kinhilt, Ireland
Probably for Colonel Sir Robert Adair (1659-1745) son of William Adair of Ballymena (d. 1661) and Anne Helena Scott. He married firstly Penelope Colville, daughter of Sir Robert Colville of Newtown. He raised a regiment of foot for King William III.
