WWII PROPAGANDA POSTERS BY KIMON E MARENGO (KEM), a set of five propaganda posters depicting the Shahnameh with figures replaced with key figures from WWII, such as Hitler, Churchill, Roosevelt, Stalin and Goebbels, written in Farsi, printed posters on paper, with type written notes stuck to reverse.
Each sheet measure 34cm x 22.9cm.
Note: Marengo was an Egyptian, who worked in Paris as a satirical cartoonist. At the outbreak of war, he was studying at Exeter College, Oxford began aiding the Ministry of Information in London, producing over 3000 images on behalf of the British war effort. The Germans were increasingly using propaganda in Iran, so Marengo was tasked with devising counter-measures. He drew on Iranian history, and repainted images from the Shahnameh. These were initially produced as posters, and then as booklets of postcards and dispersed during the Tehran conference.
