A BONE AND RESIN-HILTED YATAGHAN DAGGER WITH SILVER REPOUSSÉ SCABBARD
Possibly Greece or Balkans, Western Ottoman Provinces, late 19th - 20th century

With a sharp single-edged blade, possibly of later date, the eared handle made of two slabs of bone and resin fitted to an engraved silver tang with floral motifs, the silver repoussé scabbard decorated with animal, vegetal and anthropomorphic motifs, the tip worked with fish scales and a dolphin / water creature face, further embellished with four Balkans silver coins attached to the side of the scabbard dating 1895 and 1900, 42cm long including the scabbard.
