A CHINESE CINNABAR LACQUER COSMETIC BOX AND COVER.

Probably Song Dynasty.

The cylindrical body painted in green black and red lacquer and gilt with panels of figurative scenes from folklore and literature beneath a band of cloud scrolls, the convex cover with a maiden carrying two buckets, the edges with cranes in flight among stylised clouds, all against a cinnabar ground sprinkled with gold dust, 20cm H, 20.7cm diameter. (2)
