I am sorry about this and on behalf of the Society I should like to thank you for all the hard work you have put into this job. I am glad to note, however, that you think under Mr Pinhorn's Chairmanship the Society will continue to prosper. It is disappointing that Mr Fleming has had to give up the Honorary Treasureship; I am quite sure it is difficult to find somebody willing to take on this arduous job but I do hope someone soon will be willing to take it on", one page, some fading to signature, light age-related discolouration, mounted for display, framed and glazed, 35.5 x 39.5cm; together with: a Christmas card signed by Harold Alexander, 1st Earl Alexander of Tunis, and his wife Margaret, featuring a black and white photograph of the couple with Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, mounted for display, framed and glazed, overall size 61 x 27cm; a group of letters and cards signed by prominent British officers, including: Field Marshal Frederick Sleigh Roberts (autograph letter to Thesiger, asking is he can "keep Thursday the 14th May free for Lord Darby's luncheon", one page, 8vo, Englemere, Ascot, 22 April 1908, with a vintage photograph of Roberts at his desk, signed in black fountain ink), Admiral Charles Beresford (autograph letter to "My dear Lindsay", apologising for declining an invitation to dinner, one page, 8vo, 1 Great Cumberland Place, 4 May 1917), Field-Marshal Montgomery of Alamein (signed card), General Douglas Haig (signature on personalised stationary, dated 1919), Field Marshal Edmund Henry Hynman Allenby (signed card, also dated 15 April 1919) and Field Marshal William Joseph Slim (Christmas card signed by Slim and his wife Aileen), all mounted for display, framed and glazed (v.s.)
