*** A seminal work in chemistry addressed to Francesco Castelli and containing seven letters to Giuseppe Campi on the author’s investigations on marsh gas, which he discovered in November 1776 in Lago Maggiore.The Italian scientist correctly postulated that the gas was originated by the decomposition of animal and plants.
