Notes:Juan Carlos Copes (1931-2021) was an Argentine tango dancer, choreographer, and performer. He started dancing when he was 17. Copes married his dance partner María Nieves Rego, and the couple stayed together until 1973. Together, they defined a new tango style, called the 'estilo Copes-Nieves'. Their most famous show, called “Tango Argentino,” premiered in Paris in 1983 and became an international phenomenon, touring Europe and Asia before moving to Broadway in 1985, where it was nominated for several Tonys. Indeed, Copes was the first tango dancer to choreographed tango stage shows. Furthermore, he worked on several film productions. He died at 89 on January 15, 2020 at a clinic in the suburbs of Buenos Aires due to complications of Covid-19.
