A LARGE TINNED COPPER MAMLUK BASIN
Possibly Egypt or Syria, 15th - 16th century
Of circular shape, on a plain base, with straight circular rim, the exterior heavily engraved with a central band of various Mamluk motifs including interlocking lobed cartouches filled with thuluth calligraphy and knotwork against cross-hatched ground, rosette medallions filled with stylised vegetal motifs and further lobed cartouches with scrollwork, all on Y-shaped ground, framed within two fretwork bands, intertwined vegetal scrolls below the rim, 35.5cm diam. and 21cm high.
