Opaque pigments, ink and pencil on wove paper, the small vertical composition depicting Sir Charles James Napier, Governor of Sindh (1843 - 1847) and military Commander-in-Chief of India (1848 - 1849), on his return to England from India, with long outgrown beard and hair, a clear felt hat and coat with embroidered hems, the character identified by two English inscriptions in pencil (top verso and recto), another hardly legible inscription to the lower-left corner with a name Beechey (?) and a date 1851, 18cm x 11cm.
