Churchill (Clementine)
Two typed letters signed ('Clementine S. Churchill') to a Miss Clarke. The first letter reads "How wonderfully kind of you to send that beautiful patch-work house coat as a gift for my Red Cross 'Aid To Russia' Fund. I think it is most cleverly made and beautifully tailored, and it must have entailed much patient work. I am greatly touched that you devoted your spare time to making it, and most generously thought of sending it for my Russian Fund...I am having the house coat exhibited at the Russian Stall in the Red Cross Sale which is taking place on July 21st next at Bathurst House, Belgrave Square, London"; in the second letter Clementine writes "I feel sure you will know that your lovely patchwork silk house coat...realised over £10. The proceeds have been devoted to my Russian Fund. The coat was greatly admired by countless people, and the winner was one of the workers at the Red Cross Appeal Department"; three pages in total, folding marks, light creasing, 4to, 10 Downing Street, 25 June-4August 1942.
