A Dr Barnardo's Collecting Penny Box, English, Circa 1880-1900s,
A veneered pine box, with an illustration on the front, showing a shoeless ragged child before coming to Barnardo's home for 'destitute lads' and a picture of the same child working in the home's garden. Dr Barnardo opened his first home in 1870. Penny boxes were distributed to homes in England as a means of fundraising from the local community. The rear of the box has a pasted list, noting all the services offered by the charity, box measures 150 x 60 x 100mm
