EIGHT FRAGMENTS OF SAFAVID CUERDA SECA POTTERY TILES
Possibly Isfahan, Safavid Iran, 17th century
Comprising eight fragments of cuerda seca pottery tiles, all of uneven angular shapes, painted in bright yellow, cobalt blue, turquoise, green, and manganese black, featuring a variety of typical vegetal and floral motifs including yellow and black split palmettes, green arabesque cartouches, and interlocking sprays of lotus flowers and roses, the largest fragment 23.2cm x 17.5cm, the smallest 13cm x 12.4cm.
