A late 19th century Persian (Iranian) unmarked silver hanging wall mirror, Shiraz circa 1880

Qajar dynasty. Of elongated octagonal form, the front with a hinged lid embossed with the lion and sun Shir o Khorshid to the centre reserved in arabesques and edged with flower heads. The outer section of front with trailing vine and rosettes. The obverse with an embossed panel of nightingales within foliage gol o bolbol edged with a scalloped rim. The sides with chased foliate scrolls with ten ring attachments to the base. The top with two facetted lugs with a suspension chain. The interior with a mirror plate, the lid raised by an opposable catch.

Length – 15 cm / 5.9 inches

Length (with chain) – 45 cm / 17.5 inches
