Hawthorne Family (according to an inscription on the reverse) After the picture of 1811 in a Private Collection. Almondell Bridge was in fact designed by Alexander Nasmyth himself. The Hon. Henry Erskine (1746-1817), a Whig lawyer and politician, commissioned him to design the bridge in 1810.
