A George II sterling silver sugar caster, London 1733 by Thomas Bamford
Of circular vase form with applied girdle to base, upon a domed circular foot. The pull off cover with finely pierced panels of nought cross and foliate scrolls heightened with engraved decoration, surmounted by a spool finial. Engraved to the body with a later 19th century crest off a crowned heart below the motto quae serata secura. Fully marked underneath and with maker’s mark and lion passant to lid.
Height – 19.5 cm / 7.75 inches
Weight – 305 grams / 9.81 ozt
Thomas Bamford, was apprenticed to Charles Adam on the 18th Aug 1703, who was himself a specialist caster maker.
