Autograph Collection.- Letters to Tom Webster
A group of letters addressed to late actor Tom Webster by prominent movie and stage celebrities, including: John Gielgud (typed letter saying "How thoughtful of you to write. It was so nice seeing you at Stratford and I am very said that it is all over", Glove Theatre, London, 6 October 1950; David Lean (typed letter saying in part "I liked your work in 'Don't Listen, Ladies' very much and I am sorry that there seems to be nothing suitable for you in 'Madeleine'. I shall certainly keep you in mind whenever we are casting another production", Pinewood Studios, 9 May 1949); Harry Andrews (postcard featuring Andrews as Henry V, with handwritten message reading "Dear Tom, I thought you might like this as a little reminder of another chapter in your lurid past!"); Harry Hanson; George Cukor (including: two autograph note written on Cukor's visiting cards, one reading "Even though you pretended to be out of London when I was there (at east, so I've been told by a certain tricky party from Ennismore Gardens - who speaks with a covered up Aussie accent) nevertheless affectionate Christmas greetings and all good wishes for the New Year"; two autograph letters, one reading in part "What a pain in the ass this Christmas card of mine must be to you! The proofs finally reached me. Slightly better, but not what they should be. I've sent them to a New York printing firm who will tell me if they can improve [...] Well the first week of rehearsals of 'Chalk garden' is over. Well, well well!
