An early 20th century Chinese export silver three-piece coffee service, Hankou (Hankow) circa 1910, marked Lao Tian Bao
Qing / Republic period. Comprising a coffee pot, a milk jug, and a twin handled covered sugar bowl. The handles and spout modelled as bamboo, the lid with bamboo finials. Each with a chased panel of decoration in a scalloped cartouche, the coffee pot with a tiger to one side and a stag to the other, the milk jug with an oxen to one side and a horse to the other, the sugar bowl with a rabbit to one side and a cat with a moth to the other, all against textured decoration with grasses, except the stag with fir trees. The upper sections with a flat chased foliate scroll band, the coffee pot lid with Buddha’s hand and a moth, and the sugar bowl with a pomelo and a moth. Each marked underneath with 漢口 (HANKOU) over 老天寳 (LAO TIAN BAO, shop of Tian Bao). (3)
