With a pear-shaped body rising up to a narrow mouth, decorated in colourful enamels with a spray of azalea (tsutsuji), the base signed, together with a tomobako box signed and sealed by the artist

Sakaida Kakiemon XIV, born Sakaida Masashi (1934 – 2013), the 14th generation member of the Kakiemon Family of ceramicists dating back to early Edo period. In 2001 he gained the status of the Living National Treasure by the Japanese government, his works are held by major world-class museums such as the British Museum.
