A JAPANESE OCTAGONAL ARITA DISH

Late 18th Century

Painted with a blue and white panel depicting a pavilion and a fan-shaped panel with dragons and clouds, all against sprays of wild chrysanthemums and grasses, the lobed rim accentuated with gilt, the reverse with a six character Chenghua mark and leafy scrolls around the rim, together with a later, similarly shaped larger dish decorated with blossoms

20cm high - 23.5cm diameter (2)

Provenance: an English private collection formed during the mid-20th century
