Wilhelm II, Kaiser

Exceptionally large portrait of Wilhelm II, the last German Kaiser, in a head and shoulders pose, signed "Wilhelm F.R." and dated in his hand "Lowther Castle, August 15th 1895", housed in its original blue leather frame with silver crown and easel back by J.C. Vickery of Regent Street in London, minor handling wear otherwise in very good condition, 36 x 25cm.

***The Kaiser had been invited by Hugh Lowther, 5th Earl of Lonsdale (1857-1944), to stay at the castle for some grouse shooting. He would come back again in 1902.
