A mid-17th century German parcel gilt silver tankard, Augsburg 1655 by Hironymus Wolfgang Kern (meister 1642, d. 1660)

Of globular form upon a spreading circular foot, a double C scroll handle leading to a hinged domed lid raised by a corkscrew thumbpiece. The body with swirling lobed sections, incised concentric circles throughout, repeated to the lid with a vacant central circular cartouche. Areas and bands of gilding throughout. Marked underneath with town mark (Seling 86) and makers mark HK conjoined about a lozenge, and assay scrape (tremolierstich) underneath and to lid interior.
