*** Matteo Coferati was a priest, and cantore at the Florentine cathedral. His textbook on singing contains rules and instructions for church singing, especially the ‘Cantus Firmus’ ("Il modo di mantenere il Coro semper alla medesima altezza di voce; di ripigliare dove resta l'Organo; d'intonare molte cose"), the Songs of the church year, hymns etc.
