A late 19th century Anglo – Indian unmarked silver claret jug or ewer, Cutch circa 1890
Raj period. The body of inverted ovoid form upon a domed circular foot with a cut apron of acanthus leaves. The body with lobed sections with deep chased decoration of foliate scrolls and rosettes, interspersed with birds, including an owl to the reverse, the front with a vacant shield shape cartouche. The handle formed as a serpent leading to a domed lid of conforming shape surmounted by a finial of a bird in flight. The foot with similar decoration of foliate scrolls and rosettes.
