NOTE:

The use of the Triratna incorporating the Three Friends of Winter motif can be seen on pieces from the Ming Dynasty. For example, see an earlier bowl, marked and dated to the Wanli period, sold at Christie's New York, 22 Mar 2007, lot 315.

A bowl with a comparable 'Three Jewels' motif, this one dated to the Xuande period, is housed in the collection of the Victoria and Albert Museum, acc. no. 1710-1876

Compare also a similarly decorated bowl of this deep rounded shape, with Wanli mark, in the Qing Court Collection, and illustrated in 'The Complete Collection of Treasures of the Palace Museum - 35 - Blue and White Porcelain with Underglaze Red (II)', p. 229, no. 209. Decoration of this type can also be seen on a bowl illustrated by John A. Pope in 'Chinese Porcelains from the Ardebil Shrine', Smithsonian Institution, Freer Gallery of Art, Washington, 1956, pl. 80.

Estimated at £5,000 - £7,000
