Two early 20th century Chinese Export silver salts, circa 1900
Qing dynasty. Each of hemispherical form with moulded rims upon a collet foot. One with embossed and pierced decoration of bamboo and the other trailing Chinese dragons seeking the mystic pearl amidst clouds. Each with an associated clear glass liner. The dragon example retailed by Luen Wo of Shanghai, retailer’s mark LW with artisan mark AN XING 安興 (Canton/Hong Kong workshop), the other retailed by Ing Wo, retailer's mark I.W with an artisan mark QIU JI 求記 (Canton workshop). The retailer Ing Wo was located in the Hong Kong, Sheung Wan District 上環 [Mandarin SHANG HUAN] between Central and Sai Ying Pun in the north-west of Hong Kong Island centred around Western Market where the 19th-century Man Mo Temple was located and today’s Hong Kong Macau Ferry Terminal.
