Royal Calcutta Turf Club - An early 20th century Indian colonial unmarked silver presentation twin-handled trophy, Bangalore circa 1928 by T. Lutchmiah Chetty & Sons
Of campana form raised upon a stepped pedestal base with detachable matted and scalloped collar, the twin C scroll handles with acanthus leaf thumbpieces. The body with embossed decoration of anthemia and foliate scrolls against a matted ground, the underside with embossed acanthus leaves, the foot with similar embossed band. Presentation inscription in gothic script, one side with ‘Mysore Races 1928’ the other with ‘The R.C.T.C. Cup, won by “Birkenhead”. The base engraved ‘silver’ and ‘Manufactured by T. Lutchmiah Chetty & Sons, Commerical Street, Bangalore’. With an ebonized plinth and a silver gelatin photograph purportedly of the winning stead.
