With an accompanying letter of provenance from the vendor stating “the chaise longue upholstered in red velvet belonged to the novelist E.M. Forster. It was bequeathed to me on the death of my grandmother May Buckingham in 1997. Robert and May Buckingham were lifelong friends of E.M. Forster, and Forster regularly visited and stayed with them from the 1930s until his death in 1970.
Over the years Forster gifted many items to the Buckingham family, including books, pictures and furniture, including the chaise longue which was used in the lounge by the family both in London and then later in Coventry.” (Clive Morgan Buckingham, typed letter signed, dated 14 November 2023)
