A Victorian sterling silver vinaigrette, Birmingham 1854 by Yapp & Woodward
Of shaped oval form with waisted sides heightened with engraved decoration. The hinged lid engraved with a scene of a ships at harbour with a curved promenade populated with buildings, possibly Brighton, two figures in the foreground, with a vacant cartouche below. The obverse with two engraved demi-angels issuing from foliate scrolls, with central oval cartouche with engraved initials AJ. The lid raised by a chased thumbpiece, gilt interior with a hinged pierced and engraved grill of foliate scrolls. Engraved to interior lid, “From her cousin Charles 7th Dec 1866”. Fully marked between base and lid, the grill with duty mark only.
