Burlesque Poetry.- [Lazzarelli (Giovanni Francesco)] La Cicceide legitima. In questa terza impressione ordinatamente disposta…, third edition, title almost detached, a little browned and showing traces of repair at gutter, some spotting and intermittent dampstaining, stamp of 'Biblioteca Circolante Bologna E. Martelli', & related commercial ad pasted at front, 19th century half calf, rubbed, 12mo, n.d., n.p., n.p., [NUC., V. 320, P. 151; Melzi, I, p. 205; M. Parenti, ‘Luoghi distampa falsi’, p. 160; ‘Autori italiani del '600, III’, p. 136, n. 2934; Graesse, II, p. 156], 12mo, [Giovanni Giacomo Hertz, Venice, after 1692] *** Collection of 410 burlesque sonnets by the jurist Lazzarelli (1621-1693). The first unauthorised edition appeared in 1688 with fictitious place of printing ‘Cosmopoli’. Despite the censorship, the work was reprinted several times. The title is inspired by the name of the main character, Don Ciccio. This edition, considered the most complete, is divided into 2 parts: ‘Testicolate’ and ‘Sghignazzate’.
