AN ASMAT CANOE PROW The decorative prow is ornately carved, with the figure of a nude male on the upper surface, depicted with elongated limbs and incised facial features, the figure lies on several 'S' shapes with traces of orange pigment, the base of the prow with incised geometric patterns, 61cm high. Provenance: Collection of Lt Gen AHLF Ptt Rivers, Farnham; private UK collection, and thence by descent; Christie's, Paris, Art Africain et Oceanien, 11 June 2007, lot 293.
