λ A BRITISH COLONIAL HOSHIARPUR IVORY-INLAID HARDWOOD TRAY
Punjab, Northern India, late 19th century

Of rectangular shape, resting on a flat base, the shorter sides with two oblong handles, the interior and sides fully inlaid in ivory marquetry work, the decoration consisting of a central rectangular panel with the British Royal Artillery (RA) arm and motto Ubique Quo Fas et Gloria Ducunt (everywhere where Right and Glory lead), on each corner a cusped cartouche with floral sprays, encased within concentric bands of spiralling vegetal trellis and stylised rosettes / clover heads, to the base an old inventory sticker with no. 34, 60cm x 35cm.
