A pair of heavy late 19th century Burmese silver gilt candlesticks, Thayetmyo circa 1880-1900
Composed of two female figures in Burmese theatrical costume each upon a screw fixed stepped domed circular base. The figured finely chased with patterns and trimmings each with an arm raised, holding a candle sconce formed as an open flower with curved stem with a pointed finial. One candle sconce a gilt white metal replacement. The bases with embossed foliate scroll and simple shaped cartouches. Each engraved to the base with a British crest of an arm in armour embowed holding a sword. (2)

Weight – 2369 grams / 76.17 ozt
This crest, which is used by an excessive number of British families, has also been noted on other pieces of Burmese silver including a large embossed with Chinthe. The of the casting method such as how to construct these candlesticks is associated with Thayetmyo from near contemporary accounts.
