Opaque pigments, ink and pencil heightened with gold on paper, the vertical portraits depicting two Qajar youths, the first dressed in an elegant pink coat with striped termeh borders and wearing a tall black Astrakhan fur kaj kolah hat, possibly the son of a diplomat or an advisor of the royal court, set within red rules and purple borders, mounted, glazed and framed, 38cm x 28.5cm; and the latter dressed in a Western-inspired princely garb, the red robe featuring large and wide gilt cuffs encrusted with pearls and gems, set within an earlier light blue album page (muraqqa’) border with gilt animal and floral decoration, mounted, glazed and framed, 36cm x 29cm.
